I have had the ple­a­sure of wor­king with the Civil Col­l­e­ge Foun­da­ti­on (CKA) sin­ce the early days of its com­mu­nity orga­ni­zing work.
What I have seen is not just the deve­lop­ment of an orga­ni­za­ti­on, but the strengt­he­ning of people’s abi­lity to act toget­her and shape the­ir own future.

This kind of work has been spread­ing across Cent­ral and Eas­tern Euro­pe, as more and more citi­zens begin to under­stand the­ir role in a democracy—not just as voters, but as active par­ti­ci­pants in pub­lic life.

It is essen­ti­al to democ­racy that citi­zens not only are allo­wed to par­ti­ci­pa­te but they must be able to inf­lu­en­ce things that are impor­tant to them. In other words, they need to have power.

CKA is bring­ing this essen­ti­al app­ro­ach to Hun­gary:
sup­port­ing local com­mu­ni­ti­es, hel­ping people orga­ni­ze, and buil­ding the coll­ec­tive power nee­ded to crea­te meaning­ful change.

In moments of poli­ti­cal tran­sit­i­on, after the elec­ti­on, this eff­ort beco­mes even more neces­sary.
Ins­ti­tu­tions alo­ne are not enough—strong, orga­ni­zed com­mu­ni­ti­es are what sus­ta­in democ­racy in the long run.

That is why it is essen­ti­al that all of us sup­port this eff­ort in what­ever way we can.
Some people will get directly invol­ved in com­mu­nity orga­ni­zing.
Others can cont­ri­bu­te by hel­ping ensure that this work con­ti­nues and grows.
